Come along to Heart and Soul

On Sunday 19th May the Church of Scotland's Heart and Soul festival opens its gates (at 1.00pm) for everyone. Entry is free, and there's no need to book — just come along! We have three stages with full programmes and over 60 exhibitors (congregations, presbyteries, committees and councils of the church) all ready to share with you their journey and work.

You can check out the programme for the day, and plan your schedule for the afternoon. There's no set time for you coming, so arrive when you can, leave when you must. The day concludes with a massed closing worship service at 5.00pm in Stage A, the Ross Bandstand.

What is
Heart and Soul?

In 2011, we decided that not enough was being done to celebrate the life and work of the church, with those who very much keep it strong and vibrant in communities everywhere – the members, volunteers, ministers, and congregations alike! It was then that we hosted our first public celebration in Princes Street Gardens, called "Roll Away the Stone".

With live music, arts, exhibitions, and a massed open-air service in the gardens' Ross Theatre, the event proved itself successful in bringing our church family together for an afternoon of entertainment and praise.

It was in 2012 that Heart and Soul became the new incarnation of Roll Away the Stone, and has stuck with us each year since – building on the joyous and active atmosphere every time.

Heart and Soul 2019 runs on Sunday 19th May.

Theme: Jesus said, "Follow Me"

Jesus said ‘Follow me’. What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus in Scotland in 2019? We hope that you find lots of ways to help you grapple with that question as you explore the exhibitions, stories and acts at the event. Following Jesus always demands something from us, and in the stories that are told today we see examples of committed followers of Jesus sharing his gospel message with their communities. Take time to listen, explore and ask questions. Everyone at the event is here to help and inspire you on your journey of faith.
